Organic Wildlife Damage Control in Sugarcane

Sugar Commissioner, Maharashtra State — Implementing Animal-Out Successfully

Multiple sugar factories (co-operative & private) across Maharashtra; outreach to 204 SSKs

Wildlife intrusion — especially wild boar — caused significant cane loss. Other issues included rats, monkeys, elephants, bison, and snakes (102 wild boar, 55 rats, 6 monkey, 4 elephant, 5 bison, 2 snake cases; 181 total logged), directly impacting farmer income and factory cane availability.

  • Deployed Animal Out (NPOP-certified organic vertebrate repellent) as a barrier spray with SOP training and monitoring.
  • Direct field outreach to 19 farmers across 6 SSK regions (July 2025), outcomes categorized by SOP compliance.
  • 11 farmers reported positive protection with SOP-compliant use covering 16.5 acres.
  • 3 farmers reported problems due to excessive dilution; 1 farmer had not yet used the product at follow-up.
  • Estimated cane safeguarded ≈ 528 tons (16.5 acres × ~32 t/acre).
  • Animal Out proved 100% effective in regions affected by frequent wild boar attacks.

Showed that SOP-compliant use of Animal Out scales protection across hundreds of cane farms statewide — and that compliance, not the product, is the key variable.
